We’re so glad you’ve reached out. At Big River Equine, our mission is to support your horse’s comfort, soundness, and long-term well-being through thoughtful, whole-horse care. Every horse has a unique story, and we look forward to learning yours.

A few things to keep in mind as you get started:

  • Appointment Preparation
    Horses should be caught, reasonably clean and dry, with feet picked out before our arrival. (See Respective Responsibilities for more details.)

  • Our Trimming Approach
    We use a grinder for all trims. Most horses adjust well with proper support and training, and we’ll work with you to ensure your horse becomes comfortable over time.

  • Shoeing Options
    We do not offer traditional steel shoes. Our specialty is in composite materials, which are especially effective for rehabilitation and lameness cases. While composites are not ideal for every horse, we’re always happy to provide referrals to trusted local farriers if needed.

  • Facility & Travel
    At this time, we do not offer haul-ins. Our Rehabilitation Center at Trifecta Acres is expected to open in late 2025, where we will be able to welcome haul-ins and layups.

  • Out-of-state travel (including Illinois) is very limited at this time but feel free to reach out and we’ll help if we can.
