Quick Guide: Working Together for Your Horse’s Best Care Here are the most important things to know for a safe, smooth, and effective farrier visit. Please read through these highlights — and then see the full document HERE for details. ✅ Before the Appointment Have your horse caught, haltered, reasonably clean, and feet picked out before I arrive. Provide a safe, flat, dry, well-lit area free of mud and clutter. Please use fly spray during fly season (or I can provide it for $5 per horse) If your horse is extra energetic, a short lunge or ride beforehand helps them stand quietly. ✅ During the Appointment A responsible adult must be present to hold your horse. Don’t feed nearby horses or shed your horse out during the appointment Hold off on hoof dressings or Hoof Armor until after the trim/shoeing. I may ask to see your horse walk or trot for soundness evaluation. ✅ Scheduling & Fees Most horses do best on a 5-week schedule — this is my standard. Cancellations/reschedules: 48 hrs → 30% fee 24 hrs → 40% fee Same day/no-show → 50% fee Emergencies (horse illness, family emergency) will always be accommodated. Travel fees may apply if a reschedule requires a special trip. ✅ Shoes & Follow-Up Lost/cast shoes aren’t usually emergencies — I’ll fit you in as soon as I can.
